Every eligible kava bar is scored the same way. Rating matters most. A larger review history adds confidence, but each additional review counts less than the one before it—so popularity alone cannot carry a bar to the top.
How we rankRating leads; review volume adds confidence.
Ten times as many reviews adds only 0.20 points, roughly equal to one-quarter of a rating star. When scores are identical, we compare rating, review count, and then name.
Keeping the rankings honest
If credible evidence shows coordinated or policy-violating review activity, we may adjust the figures used for ranking. Every adjustment is dated and explained, while the original public Google figures remain visible.
Who gets included
The leaderboard began with the kava bars documented in January 2026. Newly discovered bars can join after we confirm they are open and primarily operate as kava bars. Smoke and vape shops that merely sell kava are not included.

Why not rank bars by star rating alone?+
A 5.0 based on a handful of reviews is not the same evidence as a 5.0 sustained across hundreds. More reviews add confidence, but each additional review counts less than the one before it so quality stays in the lead.
Which businesses are excluded?+
Retailer-first smoke and vape shops that merely stock kava—or maintain token seating to market themselves as a kava bar—do not compete. Genuine kava bars may still sell retail or vape products when the social kava-bar experience remains primary.
How fresh are the rankings?+
We check ratings and review counts regularly and show when the standings were updated. If the newest check is temporarily unavailable, the latest completed edition stays visible.
Can a bar pay to improve its rank?+
No. Rankings and awards are not for sale. Sponsored placements remain separate from the leaderboard.
What does an adjusted rating mean?+
A documented manipulation event affected the public review profile. The leaderboard preserves the original public Google figures, removes ratings supported by the documented review, and reduces review-count confidence when both negative and positive campaigns may be present.
What do confirmed and reported amenities mean?+
Confirmed amenities were checked directly by BestKavaBar. Reported amenities came from a venue, owner, customer, contributor, or public listing and should be checked before making a special trip. Every expanded row links to corrections.
Does Global already include every kava bar in the world?+
No honest directory can promise that. The leaderboard includes every qualifying venue HappyKava has found and confirmed so far, and international coverage will keep expanding.
