July 1, 2025 at 1:13 amSave yourself time and money and don’t bother coming here. Kava is awesome. I love the drink and love telling other people about it. But the kava at Passage is mediocre at best. The “body” and “mind” blends are pretty good, but way overpriced. The “house” blend is like a dollar less, and it tastes like nothing. Like brown water.
Service is hit or miss, depending on which kavatender you get. But the owner, Holding…let’s just say he should not be running an establishment meant for making friends. For the longest time, I tried to be nice to him. I wrote some critical reviews on Yelp. I never attacked him directly; I just constructively pointed out things that could be improved on, but he took it personally. So personally that I’m no longer allowed at Passage. I went in today after several months of not going. As soon as I sat down, one of the kavatenders (not Holding himself) walked out and said, “Nick, Holding said you’re not allowed here anymore.”
Yes, that’s right. I was BANNED from Passage because of a few critical reviews I left on Yelp. And the reviews weren’t even that bad—three stars. Well, I’m done trying to be nice and polite, and I’m done avoiding personal attacks. Holding should not be running this business, his seeming “friendliness” at first is all a facade, and he was even too afraid to ban me to my face…he had Chris come out and ban me on his behalf.
